Theatre

Take Art Theatre champions bold, high-quality arts projects that matter to Somerset.

We create and support work that’s relevant, inspiring and accessible for Somerset-based artists, companies, audiences and communities. Everything we do is rooted in making a real difference locally, with a growing focus on health, wellbeing and the environment.

We believe the arts can spark change. That’s why we collaborate not only across Somerset, but also with European partners to share ideas, learning and best practice. Much of this work is delivered through CULTIVATE and WORD/PLAY, which you can read about below.

We offer targeted support for Somerset-based theatre and spoken word artists, practitioners, companies, venues and programmers, including advice, signposting, networking and brokering partnerships. We’re here to help strengthen and connect Somerset’s creative community where we can.

We’re proud of past projects that continue to make an impact long after they’ve finished, including BARN, RURITAGE and RIOTE. These initiatives have helped build skills, confidence, partnerships and creative opportunities that continue to benefit people and communities today.

Current Projects

Cultivate

Facilitated by Take Art, Cultivate is a creative partnership that brings local food, arts and people together for the benefit of rural communities and the natural environment in South Somerset. Cultivate’s programme includes Chill on the Hill, an annual family-friendly event at Ham Hill that celebrates nature, local food, arts, culture and community; and The Great Mead Pilot Project, an ambitious new green space initiative in the heart of Chard.

Word/Play

Word/Play uses performance poetry for people who want their voice to be heard, to feel better about themselves or to make a difference in their lives.
